Here's my temporary home page.  I'm just setting it up, so I'll begin with the core material.  For now, I have the contents here, and then below that is the summary descriptions for each item.

NOTE: Most of these links don't work.

Summary descriptions:

[NOTE for people with slow computers:  ]

[You may have some difficulties downloading a few of these files.  According to my indicator, the Awesome GIF file will take 80 seconds to completely download, the page we're on should have taken 20 seconds, the illustrated Doomore book can take 150 seconds, the Rebellion account with small sketches will take 145 seconds, and its title page 45 seconds.  The railroad page also includes a sound file, so it can take 30 seconds to complete the download. ]

Awesome GIFs:

The story of how my Mother's family came to Western Canada in 1916 has been totally revised with the able direction of an assortment of animated GIFs.  They have the really truly deep  insight into what real life is all about, and everything is totally revealed in this story.  The GIF characters are already performing for you (sometimes they pause for a moment between performances), so you better get inside before its too late.  At any time, they could all collapse from exhaustion.  Use this link to discover life according to the awesome GIFs.

Suggestion:  collect your own GIFs, sort them into a familiar theme and then make up a story which is inspired by the characters.  That is what I did.  You can see how the cartoon figures inspired a rather weird story.

Dinosaur Stories:7Do-rock.gif (1984 bytes)

Doomore The Flying Dinosaur: [NO! this Dinosaur link does not work; but the rest do.] Most young children love Doomore and Chipper.   Teachers and parents have also responded with lots of praise.   This illustrated story is full of action and adventure, so it will tend to motivate today's restless child to enjoy reading.  The Flying Dinosaur is designed so you can now share a reading activity with your child on the computer.  It's written at about a Grade 2 reading level, but most children (and adults) will enjoy it.  The link contains the full story, including illustrations which are temporarily in rough form.

Other completed stories which are not included are Doomore Flies Again and Doomore, The Space Dinosaur.  I tried unsuccessfully to get them published about 10 years ago, but gave up when I failed to get results.  I was realizing that most parents who buy books, and especially those who go into children's book stores, prefer to spend their money on books that have well written, entertaining, cute and touching stories.  My style and story content are geared for the restless child who is accustomed to cartoons and so prefers blatant action and adventure.   Unfortunately, most parents prefer the quality story, so the child who is struggling with reading fails to get the book that offers the most motivation.

Photo Gallery: VHillBtn.gif (7940 bytes)

These photos include two from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and one of Drumheller, Alberta taken from the top of the valley wall with the city in the distance and the Badlands below.   The button photo above is of a badland hill which we named volcano hill when we were kids.  It is located just south of Drumheller.

Model railroad:

These photos include one of the overall layout, one of Devil's Canyon and a mine, and the last one was taken by a helicopter as it hovered over the village of Smokyville.  Hear the conductor try to get you to board the next train (a wave file) as you enter the room.

High interest Canadian history:

I have a series of short summaries which focus on basic facts with some high interest elaboration, however they are still in rough form.   Until they are added, try the one below:

This is an 18 page account of the 1885 Rebellion entitled: War In Western Canada: Part 1 Riel, Dumont, and the 1885 Rebellion.  It is complete, illustrated, polished, and although it was researched in detail, it remains as interesting and informative light entertainment.

Unfortunately, at this time, for a few days anyway, you have to open up the full 18 pages.   The title page is included separately in case you want to look at some of the small sketches used in the booklet, or you want to print it up.  (For best results, set the page for 3/4 inch margins, footers, and headers on 8 1/2 X 11 inch paper.)
